I recently was given the assignment of creating a review of a handful of small publishing companies and their business environment. Over the next several articles I will write about the unique qualities of each of the companies and will include a small sampling of the highly unique content each publisher provides. Indigo Custom Publishing is a national publishing firm based in Macon, Georgia that specializes in four-color photography and mixed media showcase books, including coffee table books, photo essays, and postcard books. Its aim is to capture the history and visual culture in America, the personality of its people and communities. Henry Beers, CEO, and his team of graphic designers, writers, and photographers work together to present you the best snapshot of national culture. They have had some top books on the market, including Vivien Leigh: Pent Shed Leigh A Biography by Hugo Vickers and Ungodly by Bill Osinski.
Vickers' Vivien Leigh: A Biography follows Vivien Leigh's star-crossed life who took the role of Scarlet O'Hara in the hit classic movie Gone with the Wind at only 26 years of age. Written in 1988 and updated and re-released, new and improved, in 2008, Vivien Leigh: A Biography respectfully covers the life of the woman, no holds barred - from her family to her relationships, from her illnesses to the things that made America love her the most. Vickers covers the previously unknown aspects of her childhood, her marriage and subsequent friendship with actor Leigh Holman, then her turbulent marriage with Laurence Olivier. Vivien Leigh: A Biography also touches on her tuberculosis and manic depression as well as her spirited perseverance until her end. At 432 pages and Indigo Custom Publishing special pre-publication price, Vivian Leigh: A Biography is a staple for starlet and Hollywood fans, and all of those people mesmerized by Gone with the Wind.
Bill Osinski's Ungodly is based on the true events of Dwight York (a.k.a. Dr. Malachi Z. York, Imam Isa), who declared himself a god as he became a sexual predator, thus establishing his protection under the force field of religion and race. As a result, the largest child molestation prosecution in America in terms of the numbers of victims and possible crimes was targeted on him. Because of the sheer numbers of counts against York, the prosecution had to cut down the counts (well into the thousands) to two hundred in order to make his life of crime more plausible to a jury. They were reluctant to make his case incredulous due to the sheer magnitude of evil acts. This story is unique because it shows two points of view - the points of view within York's cult and his victims, then the prosecutors working against him. This author, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist whose prior work includes other intense investigations, commits to donating half his royalties to support the victims of York's depravity.
Hugo Vickers' Vivien Leigh: A Biography and Bill Osinski's Ungodly are just samples of Indigo Custom Publishing's stellar line-up of eclectic featured products, including Jaclyn Weldon White's Mockingbird in the Moonlight, Richard Jay Hutto's Crowning Glory: American Wives of Princes and Dukes, Michael J. Nolte's Burned but not Broken, The Marshall Story (the inspiration behind the movie We are Marshall), and Jim Welch's Grow Now: 8 Essential Steps to Flex Your Leadership Muscle.
